Mandatory e-Invoicing period comes into effect in New Zealand from 31 March 2022

The New Zealand government is moving forward with the delivery of electronic invoicing to support fiscal processes and businesses. As of 31 March 2022, large businesses and Central Government agencies will be required to be capable of receiving e-Invoices. To use electronic invoices in the country, businesses must have a PEPPOL access point and a New Zealand Business Number (NZBN). With this very first step of mandatory implementation of B2G e-invoicing, the New Zealand government intends to save up to $4.4 billion and enforce %90 of B2G transactions to be e-Invoices by July 2026. The aim of the implementation of electronic invoices is to help simplify fiscal procedures, handle large volumes of invoices to reduce costs, alleviate administrative processing, and combat tax fraud.
