Nigeria E-Invoicing Compliance Monitoring Begins – Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS)
- Monitoring now in effect, deadline 31 July 2026 – The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has announced that compliance monitoring under the National E-Invoicing and Electronic Fiscal System (EFS) Regime has commenced. All Large Taxpayers falling within the obligated category are required to achieve full compliance on or before 31 July 2026, with those who have not yet begun strongly urged to start without delay.
- Five-stage compliance process – Obligated taxpayers must complete a structured five-step pathway: (1) onboarding on the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS); (2) integrating their systems via approved Access Point Providers (APPs) or Systems Integrators (SIs); (3) completing all required validation and testing activities; (4) actively transmitting invoices to the NRS E-Invoicing platform in line with approved standards; and (5) validating that only compliant e-invoices bearing a valid Invoice Reference Number (IRN) are received from suppliers.
- Support channels and scope – The regime currently targets Large Taxpayers, who can access technical support and further guidance via the dedicated portal (www.einvoice.nrs.gov.ng) or by email ([email protected]). The emphasis on IRN validation signals a clearance-style model in which invoice legitimacy is confirmed at the platform level before acceptance, reinforcing real-time fiscal control across Nigeria’s largest taxpayers.
