VAT on accommodation doubles to 12% as from 1 March 2026 in Belgium – but early bookings can still benefit from 6% until 30 June
- Increase in VAT Rate: Starting March 1, 2026, the VAT rate for furnished accommodation and camping pitches in Belgium will rise from 6% to 12%. The scope of taxable and exempt services remains unchanged.
- Transitional Measure: Bookings made by February 28, 2026, can still benefit from the 6% rate, provided the VAT becomes chargeable by June 30, 2026. This requires careful timing of bookings, invoicing, and payments.
- Urgent Adjustments Needed: Operators must adjust pricing and systems quickly and ensure that communication regarding VAT rates is clear, as the transition period allows little time for compliance.
