Brazil Sets Electronic Invoicing Timetable for New VAT Reform

  • Brazil has released a phased timetable to update its electronic invoicing system for the new IBS (state VAT) and CBS (federal VAT) under its 2026–2032 VAT reform.
  • Rollout begins on August 3, 2026 for core documents like NF-e, NFC-e, and CT-e, then expands on October 1, 2026, December 1, 2026, and January 1, 2027 to additional document types and reporting.
  • Existing fiscal documents are being revised with new fields and XML layout changes to support IBS, CBS, and in some cases the Selective Tax.
  • During the transition, old taxes and the new IBS/CBS system will run in parallel, so businesses must comply with both.
  • The timetable gives companies and software vendors clear deadlines to update invoicing, POS, ERP, and tax-reporting systems.
