Parcels from outside the EU 5 euros more expensive from November due to extra import duties

  • Effective July 1st, a €3 import duty will apply to all packages from outside the EU, eliminating the current €150 exemption, with an additional €2 European levy starting in November, bringing the total extra cost to €5 per package.
  • These new fees, including a national levy benefiting the state and a European levy for customs, aim to reduce parcel influx (especially from Asia) and cover customs’ inspection costs.
  • The State Secretary anticipates significant revenue from these levies, with the European levy projected to raise nearly €600 million in 2026-2027 and the national import duties over €180 million annually for the Netherlands, while also allocating €100 million yearly for enhanced online trade control.
