European Commission launches three new CBAM Calls for Evidence

  • Launch of CBAM Consultations: On 28 August 2025, the European Commission initiated three Calls for Evidence to gather stakeholder input on key aspects of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), focusing on emissions calculation methodologies, carbon prices in third countries, and CBAM obligations under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
  • Stakeholder Engagement Encouraged: The feedback period for these consultations runs until 25 September 2025, allowing affected businesses in both EU and non-EU countries to influence the definitive CBAM regime set to start on 1 January 2026, ensuring that practical considerations are addressed in the final regulations.
  • Impact on Compliance and Costs: The outcomes of these consultations will significantly affect how emissions are calculated, compliance obligations are structured, and how international carbon pricing is recognized, making it crucial for businesses to participate and provide feedback to shape effective and practical rules.
