The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has released the updated 2025 Supplementary Annual GST Return (SAGR) for the 2024–25 financial year, targeting large public and multinational businesses that have received a GST assurance rating through the Top 100 or Top 1,000 assurance programs.

Who Must Lodge:
Businesses are required to lodge the SAGR if they received a GST assurance rating on or before 30 June 2024 through:
- Top 100 GST Assurance Report
- Top 1,000 Combined Assurance Review (CAR) with a GST assurance rating
- Top 1,000 GST Streamlined Assurance Review
Additionally, if a previously assured entity becomes part of a new GST reporting group and contributes 50% or more of the group’s GST throughput, the new group must lodge the SAGR .
Purpose:
The SAGR aims to:
- Assess how businesses have addressed ATO recommendations and resolved any identified issues.
- Evaluate maintenance or improvements in GST governance.
- Reconcile audited financial statements with annualized Business Activity Statements (BAS).
- Identify any material uncertain GST positions or errors and their rectifications.
Lodgment Details:
- The SAGR form (NAT 75615) must be completed and emailed to [email protected].
- Due dates vary based on the taxpayer’s financial year-end. For example, entities with a December 2024 year-end must lodge by 21 August 2025 .
Penalties:
Failure to lodge on time or submitting false or misleading information may result in administrative penalties, especially for Significant Global Entities (SGEs)
