The Australian government will review the suitability of a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) or other carbon leakage policies for the country. The review will assess carbon leakage risks, develop policy options, and evaluate the feasibility of an Australian CBAM for steel and cement. The final report will be completed in Q3 2024 and will consider issues such as measuring emissions in traded goods, adapting to policy changes, and import/export obligations.
