KRA confirms eTIMS and TIMS invoices are both accepted for government payments via IFMIS

  • On 15 October 2026, the Kenya Revenue Authority, together with the National Treasury, clarified that the integration between eTIMS and the government’s IFMIS payment system validates tax invoices generated through both eTIMS and TIMS. Government suppliers can therefore submit valid invoices from either system when seeking payment from public institutions.
  • KRA integrated eTIMS with IFMIS in August, requiring suppliers to generate a valid eTIMS invoice before submitting supplies for payment from 31 August 2026. Invoices from either platform must meet validation standards before proceeding to payment, and invoice details must match the records generated and stored in the tax systems.
  • The clarification fits KRA’s broader strategy of linking invoice data to compliance. Since 1 January 2026, declared income and expenses are matched against eTIMS or TIMS invoices, withholding-tax and customs records. Government suppliers should reconcile PINs, invoice formats and amounts across systems to avoid stalled payments and potential audit queries.
