Lithuania’s VMI Introduces New Self-Service Access Rules

  • Lithuania’s State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) has introduced new Self-Service rules, making VMI Self-Service the main electronic environment for taxpayers and representatives to manage access to VMI services under the new MAP tax administration system.
  • Login credential administration is being moved from the former Mano VMI/EDS framework to VMI Self-Service.
  • Taxpayers can now generate their own VMI login names and passwords through Self-Service instead of requesting credentials by mail, phone, office visit, or via Mano VMI.
  • Two-factor authentication is mandatory for VMI-issued credentials; the second factor may be delivered by email or a TOTP app.
  • Google/Facebook logins are allowed only after initial activation via the Electronic Government Gateway, and unused VMI login credentials are deleted after two years of inactivity.
