- The government has launched a 12-week consultation on requiring mandatory certification for mechanically recycled plastic packaging to qualify for Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) exemption.
- The consultation aims to assess if certification can effectively verify recycled content claims, address fraud risks, and seeks input on operational impacts, implementation, and the prevalence of fraud.
- Stakeholders, including manufacturers, recyclers, and trade bodies, are invited to submit responses by August 10, 2026, and can also request to participate in consultative meetings.
