- Effective May 1, 2026, Belgium will replace the VAT current account with a new VAT provision account, centralizing VAT management and altering how credits, payments, offsets, and refunds are handled, with new practical guidance issued by tax authorities.
- The new system clarifies that VAT credits become available on the provision account in the month following the reporting period for monthly filers and three months later for quarterly filers; late filing significantly delays credit availability and incurs penalties.
- Businesses must use a specific new bank account (BE41 6792 0036 4210 (TVABTW)) for funding the VAT provision account and paying periodic VAT, with payments to the old account being redirected until December 31, 2026, and MyMinfin becoming the central portal for monitoring and requesting refunds.
