IHTF Pleads for Extension of Grace Period Amid E-Invoicing Challenges

As Belgium implemented mandatory electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) on January 1, 2026, the In-House Tax Forum (IHTF) is urging an extension of the current three-month grace period for compliance to six months. This extension is crucial, as many companies are still unable to send invoices in the e-invoicing format, underscoring the challenges businesses face in this transition.

The complexities associated with e-invoicing, including high implementation costs, fragmented regulations, and unclear legislation, disproportionately affect businesses of all sizes—particularly SMEs. Extending the grace period will provide companies the necessary time to implement effective e-invoicing systems without the immediate pressure of compliance, ultimately reducing the risk of operational disruptions.

Let’s work together to ensure a smoother e-invoicing landscape in Belgium!
