Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait clarified that Egypt does not levy value-added tax (VAT) in foreign currency on imports but rather on goods and services typically transacted in foreign currency, as stated in a Cabinet release. VAT deductions in foreign currency are applicable to purchases made in hard currency at tourist and other establishments.
