Spanish Presidency of the European Union has established four priorities

  • Spain will assume the Presidency of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2023.
  • The Spanish Presidency has identified four priorities for its term:
    • Reindustrializing the EU and ensuring its open strategic autonomy
    • Advancing the green transition and environmental adaptation,
    • Promoting greater social and economic justice, and
    • Strengthening European unity.
  • The Presidency aims to attract new companies and jobs to Europe while reducing foreign vulnerabilities and promoting the development of strategic industries and technologies.
  • It will also work to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies, reduce waste and microplastics, and establish minimum and common standards on corporate taxation.
  • Additionally, the Spanish Presidency will advocate for a greater deepening of the internal market, completion of the banking union and the capital markets union, and coordinated support for neighbouring states.
