The International Air Transport Association (IATA) pleaded with the Colombian government to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on airline tickets and fuel. VAT is currently 19% and has impacted the average fare in the South American country while, at the same time, two Colombian carriers –Viva Air and Ultra Air– ceased operations due to financial constraints.
