At the beginning of February, we will remind entrepreneurs via text message about VAT returns

Are you an entrepreneur and have you not yet submitted a VAT return for the 4th quarter of 2022 or December 2022? Then you can receive a text message from us on 2 and 3 February. We advise you to submit a VAT return for these periods no later than 7 February 2023. And, if necessary, also pay the VAT. We hope that this text message will prevent us from having to send you an additional tax assessment later on. That saves you time and effort.

Your VAT return for the 4th quarter of 2022 or December 2022 must be received by us on 31 January 2023. Your payment too, if you have to pay VAT according to your tax return. Will you not make it to 31 January 2023? Then make sure that we receive your tax return and payment no later than February 7, 2023. You may be late, but you will not be fined for it. That is, if your VAT returns and payments were not often late in the previous periods.

How do you recognize our text message?

The text of the message is:

Submit a VAT return to the Tax and Customs Administration no later than 7 February, even if you had no turnover during this period. If necessary, make your payment immediately.’

The sender is: 08000543.

So if you get this message, from this sender, you can be sure it’s from us.

Who will receive this text message?

You will receive this text message if the following applies to you:

  • You are a small or medium-sized entrepreneur established in the Netherlands.
  • We have not yet received a VAT return from you for the 4th quarter of 2022 or December 2022, although we expect one.
  • We have your mobile phone number.

Have you already filed and paid a tax return?

Your declaration and/or payment may have crossed each other with our text message. But it is wise to check whether everything went well with your declaration and payment. If so, you don’t need to do anything further now.

Check whether we have received your declaration

Did you file a VAT return via Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk? Or does a tax service provider file a VAT return for you? Then you can see for yourself whether we have already received your declaration. First log in to Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk . Then check under the heading ‘Submitted VAT returns’ whether we have received your return. If you do not see your declaration there, please file a declaration (again).

Check whether you have paid

Look up in your administration when you transferred your payment. Also check whether you have used the correct payment reference. Do you find out that you have not yet paid correctly? Then do that anyway.
