The EU finance ministers have agreed on the introduction of a CO2 tax on certain goods and substances from countries whose production is subject to lower environmental and climate requirements than in the European Union. For the time being, this only concerns cement, fertilizer, steel, iron, aluminum and electricity. A large majority, including the Netherlands, voted in favor of the European Commission’s proposal for a directive.
