The Panamanian National Assembly April 29 accepted for consideration Bill No. 229, to extend VAT to digital services. The bill includes measures to provide: 1) intermediation or digital commercialization services through mobile applications carried out in Panama that are subject to the payment of income tax and a tax on the transfer of movable property and services 2) the definition for digital services and workers; 3) the applicable social security regime; 4) insurance requirements; and 5) registration requirements for companies under the registry of commerce and digital transport companies.
