Romania intends to adopt mixed VAT rates for sale of immovable property to individuals. So far the VAT law provided a reduced 5% VAT rate for constructions below RON 450.000, if certain conditions are met. However, the government intends to allow the application of both VAT rates for the same sale transaction. The reduced (5%) VAT rate will apply to the RON 450k threshold while the standard (19%) VAT rate would be applicable for the value exceeding the threshold.
