The Bulgarian parliament is considering a draft bill submitted on 30 July 2021 that would extend the scope of the reduced 9% VAT rate to certain medicinal products that are currently subject to the standard 20% VAT rate. The extension of the reduced rate is meant to provide relief for patients that need to pay for high-cost medicinal products out of their own pocket. The reduced rate would apply for medicinal products included in the positive list provided under Article 262 of the Law on Medicinal Products in Human Medicine.
