J5 marks two years of tracking tax evaders

It’s been two years since the Joint Chiefs of Global Tax Enforcement (J5) formed in response to a call to action from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for countries to do more to tackle the enablers of tax crime. The J5 includes:

  • Australia
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Canada
  • Netherlands.

The alliance brings together experts from around the word to lead the fight against:

  • international tax crime
  • money laundering
  • cryptocurrency threats
  • those who undertake, enable or facilitate global tax evasion.

As part of a coordinated push to track down tax cheats, J5 has come a long way since its formation including:

  • an international day of action against those suspected of facilitating tax evasion
  • ongoing investigations
  • global training events as part of a coordinated push to track down tax cheats, especially facilitators.

There have also been significant exchanges of information as part of our collaboration and information sharing arrangements.

Technology is changing the way tax organisations find, track and investigate organised crime groups and wealthy offshore traders. Even during times like COVID-19 criminals see this as an opportunity to target and exploit vulnerable people. The J5 group takes a global approach to investigations and pivots quickly to operate in new ways.

You can find out more about the great work of the J5 by downloading the new J5 podcast on our Tax inVoice channel, as well as checking out our feature videos on the website.
