The government will not provide free masks for public transport. This has a disruptive effect on the market and leads to high implementation costs. The cabinet is responding to the public transport traveler by temporarily reducing the VAT to 0% on the sale of mouth masks. The minister also answers questions about, among other things, the VAT rate as a policy instrument and further intervention on the supply side of mouth masks. Based on monitoring the price of the online offer of mouth masks, the State Secretary concluded that in about one third of the cases the price had not changed. In such cases, the provider has not passed on the VAT exemption to the consumer.
