The EU Member States agreed to make the EU climate-neutral by 2050, the so-called Green Deal. Revising the Energy Taxation Directive forms part of a group of policy reforms to deliver on this increased ambition. This includes changes to be made to the Energy Taxation Directive 2003/96, which lays down the EU rules for the taxation of energy products used as motor fuel or heating fuel and of electricity.
