Last Friday, 20 March 2020, the Swiss Federal Council adopted measures to cushion the consequences of the spread of the coronavirus.
Among other things, relief for the economy was also laid down in the area of VAT in Switzerland, which we would now like to highlight here:
– Companies are to be given the opportunity to extend payment deadlines without having to pay interest on arrears.
– For this reason, the interest rate will be reduced to 0.0% for VAT and customs duties, among other things, from 21 March 2020 to 31 December 2020.
– The Swiss Federal Tax Administration (FTA) will therefore not charge interest on arrears during this period.
– In addition, the FTA has been instructed to pay out VAT credits as quickly as possible without taking advantage of the payment deadlines
