Revenue Announces Phased Implementation of EU VAT Digital Age Requirements by 2030

The European Union’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) initiative will be implemented by Revenue with a phased rollout beginning in November 2028. This rollout starts with mandatory eInvoicing and real-time reporting for domestic business-to-business (B2B) transactions by large corporate entities. Subsequently, all VAT-registered businesses involved in cross-border EU trading will need to adopt eInvoicing by November 2029, with mandatory eInvoicing for all cross-border EU B2B transactions beginning in July 2030. Crucially, all businesses must have the capability to receive eInvoices from the initial November 2028 date, even if they aren’t yet required to issue them.
