The U.S. Tariff Landscape has Changed, Again. Here’s What You Need to Know

  • New Executive Orders Reshape Tariff Policy: EO 14257 introduced a baseline 10% tariff with country-specific rates now in effect; EO 14289 ensures only the highest applicable tariff is charged per product to avoid stacking.
  • Country-Specific Tariffs Rolled Out: As of August 7, 2025, tariffs include 15% on EU and Japan, 35% on Canada, 25% on India (rising to 50% by August 27), and a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors to boost domestic production.
  • ⚖️ Legal Uncertainty Persists: Courts are reviewing the legality of these tariffs; a lower court ruled against the Executive Orders, but an appeals court has paused that decision, keeping the tariffs in place for now.
