The FDA released an updated list of VAT-exempt medicines for cancer, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, and mental illnesses, effective June 4, expanding access to essential treatments.

Newly VAT-exempt medicines include Tegafur+Gimeracil+Oteracil Potassium (cancer), Metformin+Teneligliptin (diabetes), Atorvastatin+Fenofibrate (cholesterol), Metoprolol+Ivabradine (hypertension), and Lamotrigine (mental illnesses).

Under the CREATE Act, VAT exemptions apply to select health products for serious conditions; however, Baricitinib, a cancer drug, was notably excluded from the updated exemption list.
