- On May 21, 2025, the European Commission launched its Single Market Strategy, emphasizing digital simplification, e-invoicing, SME support, and improved enforcement to strengthen the Single Market.
- E-invoicing is positioned as a key tool for digitalization, with plans to revise the EU e-invoicing Directive into a directly applicable Regulation, mandate its use in public procurement, and recommend that all accounting software support e-invoicing natively.
- This strategy complements the recently adopted VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) package and the ongoing revision of the European standard for e-invoices (EN16931), collectively reinforcing e-invoicing as a fundamental element of the EU’s digitalization and standardization initiatives.
