E-invoicing in Germany: Ready for 2026?

• Mandatory E-Invoicing Starting 2026: From January 1, 2026, structured e-invoicing will be required for all B2B transactions in Germany, eliminating the use of traditional PDFs and paper formats, with limited exceptions for B2C transactions or low-value invoices under €250.
• Key E-Invoicing Formats: Businesses must adopt XRechnung, the official XML format for public-sector invoicing in Germany, and ZUGFeRD, a hybrid format that combines machine-readable XML with a human-readable PDF/A-3, both of which comply with the European standard EN 16931.
• Preparation for Compliance: Companies are encouraged to prepare for the transition by ensuring their invoicing systems can handle these formats and comply with the new regulations to avoid disruptions in their B2B transactions.
