ZRA grants a 3-month grace period for VAT Smart Invoice System integration

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has extended the grace period for VAT-registered taxpayers to integrate with the Smart Invoice System until 30 September 2024. Electronic invoicing was mandated to start on 1 July 2024, but the ZRA has postponed penalties for non-compliance, allowing businesses more time to comply. The Smart Invoice System launched on 19 March 2024, aims to streamline VAT refunds and enhance revenue administration by reducing tax leaks. During the grace period, taxpayers must register and consistently use the Smart Invoice System. ZRA emphasized that penalties for non-compliance will be enforced starting 1 October 2024.
