The Labour government plans to implement a key tax proposal by imposing VAT on private school fees. The government has stated that the change will apply to full-time education for children of compulsory school age, in line with the Department of Education’s definition of regulated independent schools. Further details may be announced during the State Opening of Parliament on July 17, 2024, and the first Budget is expected to take place in September. Additionally, VAT may also be imposed on other services related to education, such as catering, transport, and school trips.
