Spain has extended the zero VAT rate for certain foodstuffs until 31 December 2024, including adding olive oil to the list of essential foodstuffs. This measure was initially taken in 2023 due to high inflation levels resulting from the Ukraine war and has been extended multiple times. The temporary zero VAT rate applies to basic foodstuffs such as bread, flour, milk, cheese, eggs, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and cereals. In addition, the VAT rate for electricity, natural gas, and wood for energy has been raised to 10% from 1 January to 31 December 2024.
