The German e-Invoicing community met in Berlin for the traditional e-Rechnungsgipfel on June 10/11, 2024, with discussions focusing on the upcoming B2B e-invoicing mandate. There is a general sentiment that there is a short time left until the obligation to use electronic, structured invoices starts on 1.1.2025, with full scope taking effect on 1.1.2028. There is a lack of awareness about the new regulations among SMEs and tax accountants, as highlighted in a scientific survey. Preparations for the upcoming transition period are compared to building runways for future aircraft to land on, with the European Norm 16931 defining the features to be used by the invoices.
