- The Commissioner for Revenue in Malta has published guidelines on the application of the 12% VAT rate for the supply of management of securities.
- The guidelines clarify that the reduced VAT rate of 12% applies to services consisting of the management of securities, specifically securities portfolio management services.
- The guidelines also highlight that services consisting of the reception, execution, and transmission of orders to buy and sell securities, when charged on a transaction-by-transaction basis, are exempt from VAT. However, if these services are part of a package that includes securities management, they are considered a single composite supply subject to the 12% VAT rate.
