The European Parliament has given its first green light on the proposed revision of the Union Customs Code and the establishment of an EU Customs Authority. Out of 602 votes, 486 were in favor, 19 against, and 97 abstentions. The proposed legislation aims to address the current disparities in the implementation of various import measures across EU Member States. The need for harmonization and centralization is crucial to strengthen the single market. The next step is for the Council to establish its first position, advancing the negotiation process during trilogues after the European elections.
