- The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is implementing a new e-invoice program, requiring all taxpayers to adopt mandatory electronic invoicing using the Smart Invoice system by 1 July 2024.
- This initiative aims to combat fraudulent invoices and limit VAT reimbursements.
- The Smart Invoice system will replace Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFD), allowing taxpayers to claim VAT deductions based solely on invoices generated under the new system.
- The system includes desktop and tablet applications for Windows-based devices, a mobile application for Android devices, and an online option for service industry taxpayers.
- Certified invoicing systems can integrate with Smart Invoice after certification, and taxpayers can initiate the integration process by downloading the integration document and contacting [email protected].
