The Council Directive (EU) 2022/542 amends the VAT Directive 2006/112/EC, regulating VAT taxation in the EU. Member States have until the end of 2024 to implement the new provisions. Changes include the taxation of virtual cultural events and streaming services, as well as the introduction of additional reduced VAT rates. The directive also clarifies rules for determining VAT rates, exempts turnover of imported goods for disaster victims from VAT, and extends the list of goods and services eligible for reduced VAT rates.
