VAT registered persons in Bahrain no longer need approval to issue and retain invoices, credit and debit notes, and other documents in electronic form. The Bahraini government has announced plans for mandatory e-invoicing in mid-2022, but it is not yet in effect. The new rules were published on November 16, 2023, and are effective immediately. This allows VAT registered persons to digitize their billing processes without prior approval. The National Bureau for Revenue is taking steps to streamline invoicing digitization until e-invoicing becomes mandatory.
