WhatsApp Business services in Uganda are subject to VAT as of October 2022. Facebook (Meta), which owns Whatsapp since February 2014, published a message, informing users that the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) would levy VAT on each Facebook advertisement with Uganda serving as the country of purchase. This is in line with the country’s position towards taxing the e-commerce sector.
