The online gaming industry is heaving a collective sigh of relief after the Group of Ministers (GoM) decided not to mix online gaming with horse racing and gambling. In July, the GST Council had decided to increase taxes on the industry to 28% from 18%, which was largely accepted by industry stakeholders.
At the moment, the 18% GST on the sector applies to gross gaming revenue (GGR). However, the GoM had been mulling over levying it on gross gaming value (GVV), which is the total value of the stake put in by players.
