The purpose of this evaluation is to provide an interim assessment of the implementation of the Union Customs Code (UCC) at both EU and Member States’ levels. Since its entry
into force in 2016, the UCC is the main legal and IT framework for customs processes in the EU customs territory. The UCC aims:
- to protect the financial interests of the Union and the Member States
- to protect the safety and security of EU citizens and
- to maintain a proper balance between customs controls and facilitation of legitimate trade.
