In the FD, Joost Dobber describes the situation of Dutch Bike Bits from Assen, which supplies bicycle parts to British consumers, among others, but stops doing so because of the British VAT rules that the company considers ridiculous. “If we were to follow the UK VAT procedure in the rest of the world then we would have to pay registration fees in 195 countries and keep up with the tax rules of 195 countries (…) That’s why we deliver to all countries of the world from mid-December … except to the UK, “the company commented in the newspaper.
Ronald van den Hurk, VAT specialist at the Dordrecht VAT institute, can confirm that this is an unpleasant consequence of Brexit. “We notice that the processing time of registration requests has increased enormously in recent months at HMRC and that companies are facing high costs.”
