Zampa Partners Event: From Funds to FinTech: The VAT Implications of Evolving Financial Services Models (March 25)

REGISTER HERE

The VAT treatment of financial services is facing increased complexity. Evolving business models and the growing presence of digital platforms are forcing a rethink of long-established VAT positions. From traditional fund management structures to embedded finance and decentralised payment solutions, the rules are being tested, and the consequences are significant.

This conference will focus exclusively on the intersection of VAT and financial services. It will bring together VAT advisors, FS industry stakeholders, and international experts to examine how exemptions are being interpreted, what risks are emerging, and how businesses can manage the regulatory and practical challenges that lie ahead.

‍This is an afternoon event, registrations open at 12:00pm. This event has been accredited by the Malta Institute of Accountants with 3.75 hours of structured CPE qualifying under Core competency as per the Accountancy Board Accreditation Rules.

Agenda

  • The event, opened by Matthew Zampa (Zampa Partners), will explore the intersection of commercial realities and VAT law within fintech and fund structures (Mark Caruana Scicluna, Ganado Advocates; Anabel Mifsud, Fexserv Funds) and discuss new models versus old rules in VAT exemptions for financial services.
  • A panel, moderated by Brandon Gatt (Zampa Partners) and including Matthew Zampa, Nico Sciberras (MTCA), Alexis Tsielepis (Chelco VAT), and Dr. Sarah Cassar Torregiani (MIT), will specifically address rethinking VAT exemptions in financial services.
  • The agenda features presentations on practical VAT challenges in fintech and funds (Alexis Tsielepis, Chelco VAT) and an in-depth look at case law and the future direction of the financial services exemption from Prof. Dr. David Hummel (European Court of Justice).
