Open consultation: Reforming the customs treatment of low value imports into the United Kingdom

  • Customs Duty Relief Removal: The government plans to remove the £135 customs duty relief for low-value imports (LVIs) by March 2029 at the latest, following a surge in LVI volumes and a review of current arrangements.
  • Consultation Scope: Seeks views on the design of new customs arrangements for LVIs, including data collection, tariff application, potential administrative fees, and possible changes to VAT collection to align with the new system.
  • Timeline & Participation: Consultation closes on 6 March 2026; stakeholders can respond via an online form or email. A launch webinar will be held on 4 December 2025 to explain proposals and gather feedback.
