  • From January 1, 2026, the reduced 5% VAT rate for publications will apply only to those in specific languages, including Latvian, Latgalian, Livonian, and official languages of the EU, EEA, Switzerland, EU candidate countries, and the OECD.
  • A pilot project will introduce a reduced 12% VAT rate for certain food products (bread, fresh milk, fresh chilled poultry meat, and fresh poultry eggs) from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.
  • Currently, most food products are taxed at 21% VAT, with a 12% reduced rate already for baby food and certain fresh produce.
