- Introduction of VeriFactu: Spain is implementing the VeriFactu system to enhance digital invoicing and combat tax fraud. Under Royal Decree 1007/2023, businesses must use certified invoicing systems that generate unique, digitally signed invoices, with an emphasis on preventing manipulation of accounting software.
- Mandatory B2B E-Invoicing: The “Crea y Crece” Law will mandate B2B electronic invoicing, requiring all invoices to be transmitted to a public platform managed by the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT). This system will start for larger businesses in 2027, with specific reporting obligations for recipients.
- Alignment with EU ViDA Initiative: These reforms align with the EU’s “VAT in the Digital Age” initiative, aiming for structured e-invoicing across Europe by 2030. Companies operating in Spain or issuing invoices to Spanish businesses must adapt their systems to comply with these new requirements to ensure seamless integration and avoid disruptions.
