Sunday morning. Time to reflect.
Today I’m thinking about negative comments about companies on social networks, employer branding, what companies should do, and, most of all, self-criticism and self-reflection.
Many topics, but they are all connected.
Let’s start with self-reflection.
It’s hard, maybe impossible, to see ourselves clearly.
We often feel we’re doing our best and others don’t value it.
That can be true, but sometimes expectations differ.
The real question is: Is my perspective right and their expectation wrong or is my output simply not effective enough?
When this gap stays unresolved, frustration grows. And frustration needs an outlet.
Social networks make it easy, often anonymously, to release it again and again.
That attracts others who feel the same, and soon we get a wave of negative comments about certain teams, managers, or companies.
Employer branding is often presented as the solution.
I don’t believe it can fix this completely.
The reason is simple: human psychology.
Changing perspective and being truly self-critical is always hard.
So here’s my note to myself (and to anyone who leads teams or companies): be yourself, do honest and good work, try to feel how others feel, and take care of them.
The rest is not fully in our hands.
