Hungary is launching the ePénztárgép e-cash register and e-receipt system to combat VAT fraud, modernize transactions, and build on the success of its 2014 online cash register rollout.
-
The system, available as integrated devices or a mobile app, allows real-time receipt transmission to tax authorities. Voluntary from July 2025, it becomes mandatory nationwide by September 2026.
-
Businesses benefit from lower servicing costs, no paper receipt storage, and digital archiving by NAV. Consumer privacy is protected, with no personal data shared with tax authorities or companies.
