VAT Guidance for Kazakh Businesses Using ChatGPT: Compliance and Cost-Reduction Tips

  • From 1 August 2025, Kazakhstan applies 12% VAT on ChatGPT subscriptions for individuals and non-registered entrepreneurs. VAT-registered businesses can avoid the charge by entering their Business Identification Number (BIN) before the deadline.

  • Private users and non-VAT-registered entrepreneurs will automatically pay 12% VAT on ChatGPT, which cannot be reclaimed. Businesses that fail to update tax details will face unnecessary costs with no option to offset the VAT.

  • To avoid VAT, businesses must verify VAT registration, locate their BIN, update their ChatGPT account, and maintain VAT-compliant invoices. Early action ensures invoices remain tax-exempt and compliant with Kazakh regulations.

  • This change reflects a global trend taxing digital services. Companies should proactively manage AI, SaaS, and cloud subscriptions, updating tax information to prevent extra costs and maintain compliance with evolving digital VAT rules.
